I’ve been a denim lover for as long as I can remember. Denim jackets, shirts, dresses, shorts, jeans, these are the items I keep wearing every single year. But when it comes to denim skirts, I kinda have a love-hate relationship with them. During my university years, a denim skirt wasn’t my thing. It made my hips look wider, my bum bigger and my legs much shorter. Yes, I’m not even exaggerating, it really made me look so bottom-heavy! I tried to avoid wearing them as much as I could. Fast forward to now, thinking back on my ‘denim skirts experience’ — if only I’ve done some little research, learned how I could dress for my body shape at that time, I wouldn’t have avoided denim skirts for years. But they always say better late than never right? So if you’re on the hunt for a denim skirt, here’s my mini guide on how you can choose the right skirt for your frame.
On a side note: I’m in no way a pro, but I just want to share these tips with you as they really work!
As mentioned in my earlier post, I would consider myself pear shaped. A-line denim skirts are your best friend when you are apple, pear or hourglass shaped. Why? Because they accentuate your waist and hide your hips and bottoms. When it comes to a straight denim skirt, it wouldn’t suit my frame (this applies to an apple-shaped too) as it can hug my features in all the wrong places and it will also make me look bigger on top.
2// pencil skirt
If you are an hourglass type, a denim pencil skirt suits you best. It highlights your hips and it keeps the upper part of your body nice and slim. Oh and did you know a pencil skirt looks good on pear shape figures, too?
3// high waist denim skirts
A high waisted (mini) denim skirt is just purrrrrfect for apple shaped types. It covers your stomach, it draws attention to your hips and thighs and it will make you look leaner. Ideal for hourglass and pear shaped types too.
4// flared (maxi) skirt
If you are tall and rectangular or apple shaped, opt for a denim flared maxi skirt. It adds more shape to your frame. Make sure to wear a fitted top such as an off the shoulder bodysuit top or a tee (tuck it into your skirt) for a well balanced silhouette.
And that’s it for today! I hope you found these tips useful.
What body type are you? And have you found your denim skirt for your body type yet?
