Last week we talked about stripes, today we’ll be focusing on..polka dots! Not sure if you have noticed yet, but polka dots are back this season and I couldn’t be any happier! There’s just something about this pattern..it’s super fun, cute and it adds such a playful touch to your outfit.
Unlike stripes, polka dots are much easier to handle if you ask me. No matter what size the dots are, every body type can wear this pattern. That said, keep in mind polka dots draw attention, so..
1// ..if you want to hide a certain part of your body, don’t wear dots. Focus on which part you want to highlight instead. For me, I’ve never been a fan of polka dots bottoms, I don’t know why, but I don’t feel comfortable in it..I guess they just don’t suit me. So you won’t see me in a pair of dotted trousers. Polka dotted tops, however, are a different story. I love a nice, chic dotted top or blazer that can spice up my outfit.
2// ..if you’ve never worn polka dots before, but you would like to give it a try, go safe. And with safe, I mean go for neutral, basic colours. Go for black dots on white or go for white dots on black or navy blue. These colours always work. Plus, they never go out of style.
3// ..if you want to make it more challenging, pair it with another pattern such as…stripes! Yes! Did you know that polka dots and stripes go well together? Pair a polka dot top with a pair of striped trousers or a skirt. However, I do recommend wearing vertical stripes for this kind of combination. Also, in order to balance the look, the sizes of the dots and stripes do matter. So go for medium dots for the upper part and small thin stripes for the lower part of your body ór go for thin stripes for the upper and big dots for the lower part.
