Coats to covet this winter :: check coat

Hey guys! Hope you’ve had a wonderful Valentine’s Day weekend!

Last week was my birthday and I never thought Wai (my hubs) would surprise me with a pre-Valentine’s Day weekend trip to Maastricht (pics will be up soon). Maastricht is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands with a long history. I enjoyed being there as I could finally spent some quality time with Wai, as husband & wife.

And on top of that, he surprised me with another gift as soon as we got home: he, my sis and my friends threw me a surprise birthday party. I’ve cried like a baby and I never thought they would actually arrange this for me.
For me, birthdays don’t mean as much as I get older, especially when you’re a mom (you’ll be focusing on the birthday of your child instead of your own). But this time it was one the happiest birthdays of my life. So guys, if you are reading this, thank you once again! Love you to the moon and back :)

Ok..enough talking. Let’s move on to today’s topic, shall we? Alright, here we go…Welcome to the final week of the Winter Coat Edit Series (if you missed the previous eps of this styling series, click here)! Let’s talk about check coats today. You’ve been probably seeing it everywhere, but in case you’ve missed it: check prints (or plaid) are huge this season!

Check coats are super easy to style, they can take your outfit up a notch!

Whether you go chic or just want to keep it casual, check coats are the finishing touch to any look.

• pair it with a simple knit and jeans for moments like “I really don’t know what to wear” and “I run out of inspiration”. Tip: draw interest to your look by wearing a baker boy hat or a beret.
• opt for black items for a sophisticated look. Wear a black top paired with black bottoms. You can never go wrong with black right? Throw a beige or grey check coat over your all-black outfit and top it off with a deep red lip. Now yo just created a timeless yet sophisticated look!
• create a classic à la Parisian vibe by pairing the coat with a white blouse and a midi (pleated) skirt.
print-on-print. Add a playful touch by mixing prints together. Wear stripes! Did you know that stripes go with everything? Simply pair a striped top or dress with a check coat. You’ll be amazed how cool they look together!

how would you style your check coat?

I’m wearing
Zara check coat
Mango sweater
Zara turtleneck
Zara blouse
Zara skinnies
Zara booties
Céline bag (similar here)

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Until next time,
